"Det handlar om att hitta rätt bok till rätt person vid rätt tillfälle": En undersökning av läsfrämjande verksamhet för ungdomar i åldern 13-19 år.

The purpose of this Masters thesis is to investigate librarians views on reading and Reading promotion for young people. The main issue is if activities in Reading promotion for people between the ages of 13-19 years can result in inspiring non-readers to actually become readers. To find the answers, qualitative interviews were held with eight librarians. The literature review covers research on the reasoning of young people on reading, a historical review of fiction and reading, a review of arguments on the benefits of reading and finally a chapter which concerns Reading promotion activities. The result of this study showed that the conceptions of Reading promotion and book talk are very complex and that they each can have different meanings.

To what extent, if any, do perceptions of professional identity influence the interest to carry out some kind of reading circles for adults? Our study is based on qualitative interviews with librarians, both those in charge of reading circles in libraries and those who are not. As theoretical starting point we have used Andrew Abbott's work on theory of professions and Jofrid Karner Smidt's thesis on literary preferences and different kinds of mediation of literature. Folkbibliotekets plats i den sociala webbmiljön: En undersökning med fokus på litteraturförmedling och läsfrämjande

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to examine the function of public libraries on the social web, focusing on Reading promotion and reading stimulation. For an understanding of the larger context regarding public libraries on the social web, we conducted online interviews via email with people in the Swedish library profession, together with a content analysis of various texts on the subject found in library journals and on the Internet. Furthermore to identify the public library's practice on Reading promotion and reading stimulation on the social web, we did interviews with librarians at a public library on their use of a blog for this purpose, together with a questionnaire handed out to the library's users on their use and conceptions of the blog. The conceptual framework of this study consists of four key aspects in the theoretical and empirical definition of Library 2.0 presented by Holmberg, Huvila and Widén-Wulff. The results showed that the public library can create a substantial value through its use of the social web, but it?s necessary to have a clear vision of the desired outcome.

ATT STIMULERA TILL LÄSLUST Hur bibliotekarier kan arbeta för att läsovilliga barn och ungdomar ska kunna känna läslust!

The purpose of this Master's thesis is to make suggestions as to how librarians can promote young reluctant readers to help them find the joy of reading. We want to show how the comprehension of these children and adolescents can be translated into action in the librarians work with Reading promotion. Our main questions are:? What attitudes do the librarians find that children and adolescents, ages 9-15 with reluctance to read, have towards reading?? What do public- and school librarians do to stimulate children and adolescents, ages 9-15 that are reluctant to read, to feel the joy of reading?? What role or which roles can the public- and school librarians have in the work of Reading promotion, targeting children and adolescents with a reluctance to read?We have used Beers's theories about reluctant readers and Reading promotion, Chambers's model and theory ?Reading Circle? and his theories about conditions that promote a ?good reading environment?. We have also used Smidt's theories about the librarian's different roles in the work of supplying literature. The method we have used is qualitative and based on literature and interviews with 7 children- and school librarians that all of whom work or have worked with Reading promotion for children and adolescents in the ages between 9-15, that are reluctant to read. Our results show that in order to gain understanding about the attitudes towards, and relationship to reading, our targeted group have, the librarian has to be aware of the inner conditions that these children and adolescents have. These inner conditions are going to affect the work and the result of the Reading promotion activity.

I huvudet på folkbibliotekarien ? En studie om folkbibliotekariers uppfattningar om lässtimulerande insatser

The librarians of the public library have extensive experience of working with different projects engaging children and youth in reading, and so they have a major part to play in this matter. Consequently, the aim of this study is to examine and describe the different perceptions the public librarians have of these projects. Four research questions were formulated, each focusing on the perceptions regarding different aspects of the Reading promotion projects.
